It Buries Google Desktop Search
Posted March 11, 2005, 8:39 PM PT by Jason Fields
Speaking of Spotlight features, if you're on a Windows box, you should go and download Yahoo Desktop Search (Software Technology by X1.com) which offers you multi file format searching and indexing (it buries Google Desktop Search).

Long Live X1!
Posted Nov 21, 2004, 10:08 PM ET by Rick Stavanja
The single most impressive thing about X1 is quite simply its speed. Literally as fast as you can type each letter of your search term, X1 is delivering your results with highlighted keywords appearing in the preview pane (Did I mention the Goggle Desktop doesn't preview results?).

Google Desktop Search Launched, Not as good as X1
Posted Oct 14, 2004, 1:54 PM ET by Jason Calacanis
I'm playing with Google's Desktop search. It's fast, it's cool, it's free-but it's not even
close to as feature rich as X1.COM.

Forget Google Desktop; Get X1
Like Mike, I totally find it amusing all the people that think this revolutionary and even
great. Google's "product" exemplifies all the
worst traits of a thin browser based solution - clue Google, I don't want to search in a Web Browser, I want a Smart Client.

Project Fluffy Bunny has seen the light of day.
Google is extending its search business to your desktop. The new Google desktop search indexes Outlook and Outlook Express email, Microsoft Office files,
filenames, web history, chat logs, and text files. It integrates into Internet Explorer, and future Google searches will include results from your own hard
drive as well as the web in general. It's a great product considering the price, but I still prefer X1 for its speed and the wider variety of files it searches.

And yes, I believe this X1 Search is WAY better than Google Desktop Search at this time.
I've found things on X1 that Google Desktop (bless it's little heart) just wasn't able to find, namely some stuff in Excel spreadsheets.
Google Desktop even indexed the file, too, not sure why it couldn't find the string I was looking for.

More on X1 Google Desktop Alternative
I have been using X1 since mentioning it yesterday as an alternative to Google Desktop Search and it is a great piece of software.

Google Desktop Search: Security Threat?
Posted on Oct 15, 2004, 09:29 AM ET by Tom Spring
Google Desktop Search might just be too good. Using the new software, I was able to bypass user names and passwords that secure Web-based e-mail programs and
view personal messages sent and received on public PCs.
